The rear shutter segment, along with the wooden spacers in the remaining shutter opening, assembles the dome halves into a nearly rigid structure prior to attachment to the DSR. Attaching the rear shutter segment is a two-person job: one to install the flat-head screws from the outside, and one to assemble the nuts and washers on the inside. Since the dome was pre-assembled in a garage bay, this work goes quickly.
